Classical Guitarist James Flegel received his DMA in Guitar Performance from the University of Minnesota and joined the faculty there in 2004. At the University he teaches studio and classroom guitar, directs guitar ensembles, and teaches courses in guitar history, literature, and pedagogy. He also recently joined the faculty at University of Minnesota, Morris. He has also taught at Carleton College, Northfield, MN, and Macalester College in St. Paul.
He performs frequently in the Twin Cities, giving many solo recitals at the University of Minnesota and for the Minnesota Guitar Society. He often performs chamber music with School of Music faculty and students, and with his wife, pianist Emilia Vishnevetsky Flegel. He has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra and the Cannon Valley Orchestra. He has performed at many colleges, including Gustavus Adolphus College, Saint Thomas University, University of Wisconsin at River Falls and Eau Claire, at Saint John’s University, Collegeville, and also as a guest artist at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the Meadows School at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
